The Growth of Towns and Cities in the Middle Ages

ECO 21. The growth of cities and empires fostered the growth of markets. Market exchanges encouraged specialization and the transition from barter to monetary economies.

TASK 1 - Why did towns begin to grow?

By the 1300’s Western Europe was changing.  Towns and cities were beginning to expand and grow.  The primary reason for this was:    
                 An increase in trade. 
This was true for a few reasons.  View the video to discover why trade began growing in Europe in the Middle Ages.  Some of the info will be review and some will be new.

Use the info from the video to fill in your notes.  



TASK 2 - How did towns begin to change life for people in the Middle Ages?

            These new towns began to grow and change life for everyone living in Europe at this time.  Use the info below to fill in your notes.
